Local Rally Set For Trayvon Martin At U Of M

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- There were more demonstrations this weekend over the killing of a Florida teenager.

Seventeen-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot last month in the town of Sanford, Fla. The man who shot him has claimed self defense and has not been charged.

Members of the New Black Panther Party are offering a $10,000 bounty for the capture of George Zimmerman -- the man who shot Martin.

A grand jury is set to decide whether or not charges should be brought against gunman Zimmerman, on April 10.

Here in Minnesota, local supporters are holding a rally on Thursday at the University of Minnesota.

They are calling it the "One Million Hoodies March for Trayvon Martin." The rally starts at 6 p.m., at Northrop Plaza. A flier for the event asks participants to come out in their hoodies to show support.

Project Minnesota will also be holding a meeting for a community plan for reducing gun violence at 3 p.m. Sunday, in response to Martin's death.
