Man Arrested In Criminal Conduct 'Flash Mob'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police are investigating alleged criminal conduct "flash mobs" after 15-20 teens were reportedly assaulting and robbing unsuspecting victims.

According to a criminal complaint, around 7:45 p.m. on Friday, police were on patrol near 5th Street and Nicollet in Minneapolis to investigate these "flash mobs." Officers noticed seven males standing around a bus stop and three males riding up Nicollet on their bikes.

As the three men on bikes approached the bus stop, several of the males surged toward them. One hit one of the bicyclists in the face, throwing him from his bike and breaking his jaw. Another bicyclist was surrounded by the males at the bus stop and attacked.

Officers approached the group and saw about 15-20 youths running around the corner from the melee. Officers ran after the group, suspected in the assaults, and were told they continued their riotous activity on a restaurant patio.

Police identified 20-year-old Antonio Dwayne Jones as one of the men suspected in the attack. After being placed under arrest, police also found a bag of suspected narcotics in his pants' pocket and a small amount of marijuana in his coin pocket.

Jones could face fifth-degree controlled substance possession, third-degree riot and fifth-degree assault charges.
