MnDOT: Delays Expected As Signal Is Set Up At Hwy 169/I-494 Interchange

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Beware Bloomington and Edina drivers: delays are expected on Highway 169 as a traffic signal just north of Interstate 494 goes back into service.

MnDOT isn't quite sure when the power will be connected to the signal, but it could happen as soon as Thursday. The signal will be in place through fall 2012.

The signal is need for the Highway 169/ Interstate 494 interchange project, which seeks to turn the expressway into a freeway – thus reducing congestion and traffic in theory. In order to reconstruct the southbound lanes on Highway 169, all traffic will soon be using the new northbound lanes, MnDOT said.

No other traffic signals will be put into service.

The current merge lane from westbound Interstate 494 to northbound Highway 169 will not be open during this shift. The signal is thus needed to allow traffic from westbound Interstate 494 to access northbound Highway 169 safely, MnDOT said.
