Suspect In Minneapolis Cab Driver Robbery Charged

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – An 18-year-old Minneapolis man is accused of robbing a cab driver at gunpoint on March 18, according to charges filed Tuesday in Hennepin County Court.

Soldon McKinley Armstrong was charged with first-degree aggravated robbery in connection with the incident.

According to police, officers responded to the area of 46th Street and Dupont Avenue on March 18 on a report of a robbery. When police arrived, they learned a driver with the company Yellow Cab had been robbed and assaulted at gunpoint by two suspects.

Officers located the suspects two days later near the intersection of 7th Street and Nicollet Mall while responding to a disturbance call. An officer stopped Armstrong and found that he had a 9mm semi-automatic handgun on him, the same gun that was used in the armed robbery, police said.

Armstrong was taken into custody and is currently being held in the Hennepin County Jail.

Cab drivers have been on high alert since another cab driver, William Harper, was shot and killed in north Minneapolis during a robbery. The suspect in that case turned himself into police.
