Couple Arrested, Woman Accused Of Throwing Puppies

FRIDLEY, Minn. (AP) -- Police in Anoka County say a man was arrested for punching his girlfriend, who retaliated by throwing 1-week-old puppies at him. Both are in the Anoka County Jail, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

The 25-year-old boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault. The 20-year-old woman is being held on possible charges of animal cruelty.

Police in Fridley say the two were arguing in parking lot outside an apartment building early Thursday. The man is accused of punching his girlfriend in the face. She's accused of hurling the three newborn puppies, which were huddled on the front seat of a pickup truck.

The pit bull pups landed on the concrete. But Lt. Mike Monsrud tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press the puppies appear to be OK.
