Charges: Man Allegedly Solicited Sex With Teen On Craigslist

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A Lakeville man has been charged with two counts of solicitation after police say he tried to meet up with a 13-year-old for sexual activity after the two met on Craigslist.

According to the criminal complaint, Robert Trummer, 49, posted on Craigslist, “Daddys looking — m4m-49 … For his boi.” A boy, who Trummer believed to be 14 years old, responded to his post saying “hi .. im a boi.”

The two exchanged messages over email — including one where the boy said he was 14 and asked if that was too young, to which Trummer responded no. The boy sent Trummer a photo of himself wearing a swimsuit and the two organized plans to meet.

They decided to meet at a park in Lakeville. Trummer told the boy he’d be driving a blue SUV. Police spotted the SUV sitting in the park’s parking lot and arrested him. In plain view, officers saw beer and lotion in the vehicle.

The boy’s father also told police he saw a blue SUV drive by his home very slowly on Jan. 31 and that the driver of the SUV was looking closely at the home. He said the driver passed the home, turned around and drove by again.

Trummer is charged with two counts of solicitation of a minor to engage in sexual conduct. If convicted, he could face up to three years in prison and/or up to a $5,000 fine.

Ok the old man, jail time. But what the heck was this young kid doing answering this guys add. Unless there is more to the story that I dont see, this young lad may need some help himself

    • Guy

I suspect that the “young kid”/”boi” was probably “Officer Friendly” of the local pd. That is why the cops knew who/where/what to look for.

This is how I met my current partner Bruce

In the beginning of the article it sounds like a sting operation, ala Chris Hanson… In the end of the article it sounds like a 14 year old boy looking to hook up with a 49 year old man who is looking for a young boy to hook up with.

If it wasn’t a sting, how did the police know to arrest him on the spot while he was in his car?

    • Suzi N.

It sounds like the kid’s father was aware of the situation – probably monitoring his kid’s internet activity, too. Just because the boy is 13 doesn’t mean he’s innocent. Naive maybe, but it sounds like he knew the game.

You guys are missing the point, don’t have beer and lotion in the car. Geez

    • jackactionhero

How about beer and hand sanitizer? :)

      • desert eagle .50

Figures you’d need the hand sanitizer.

this is not surprising these guys do this until they get caught…..damn weirdo’s

  • big banjo

very creepy indeed….just wonder what this weirdo has done in the past…..makes me cringe.

  • dodo

the artical does not tell ya anything really….how can they leagally charge a guy for going to a public park with lotion in his car…very serious…… “LOTION”… the boy should be charged also (unles it was a sting) did he not help to ARRANGE a meeting for sex? Poor daddy man….

    • Capt. Obv

The guy tried to hook up with a young boy and you’re questioning the arrest, makes you want to rethink what you do on your weekends weirdo.

    • Capt. Obv

You don’t even mention the beer, is this your father or brother the man arrested, or is this your usual routine and you’re worried you’ll get arrested.

  • Jack

The story is incomplete. There had to be contact between the boy and the man. And then the father had to find out and set up a sting operation with the police. They probably just did not want to mention that part quite yet.

    • Paul Edstock

There did not have to be contact. The man offered to meet a minor for sex. That in itself is illegal. The “minor” (whether the boy or a police stand-in) accepted. That completes the “offer and accept” element. Now they need to show that the man actually intended to meet the boy and carry out the illegal act. By showing up at the park, the man shows a strong intent to carry out the act. They have him for, at minimum, Conspiracy to Commit a Lewd Act With a Minor, and Conspiracy to Corrupt a Minor. All of this makes perfect sense to lawyers; normal people don’t usually know all the little nuances, the twists and turns of the law.

  • Kevin

Shoot him and cleanse the gene pool……..

  • A Jerk

What no racial or politcial comments? Oh right, hes not black.

  • WHAT??

There had to have been some sort of contact/messaging between the man and the “boi” or else how would the man have known where the kid lived to drive by there??????

  • mr.obvious

No surprise. This weirdo is white.
