MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State health officials say eight people in Wisconsin are among those sickened by a salmonella outbreak in 19 states.
Three cases have been documented in Milwaukee County with five additional cases in Waukesha County. Three of the eight people were hospitalized. Health officials say they’re monitoring for additional cases and are assisting in the federal investigation by interviewing patients about their food history.
The Food and Drug Administration is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to identify the source of the outbreak. It may be linked to sushi and investigators are focusing on spicy tuna rolls as “highly suspect.”
Ninety cases of salmonella have been confirmed across the country.
