Police Seek Man After Sheriff's Deputy Assaulted In Stillwater

STILLWATER, Minn. (WCCO) -- Officers are investigating after a man reportedly assaulted a Washington County sheriff's deputy Thursday evening.

The department said one of their seasoned deputies tried to pull over a suspicious vehicle along St. Croix Trail North at about 9:30 p.m.

During the stop, the suspect assaulted the deputy, kicking and punching him before fleeing on foot.

The sheriff's deputy was not hospitalized.

A number of other resources were called in to search for the suspect but he was not located.

"It's always possible he could have left the area," said Commander Cheri Dexter of the Washington County Sheriff's Office. "But we do believe he's still in the area and we are looking around St. Croix Trial."

Officers identified the suspect Friday as 20-year-old Tyler Robert Chute. Authorities describe him as about 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds with blue eyes. He has a tattoo of "Chute" on his chest, "Angel" on his back and also has a two inch scar on the left side of his head.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office has a warrant out for his arrest in connection with Thursday's assault. Anyone with information about where Chute might be is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 651-439-9381.
