2 Rescued From Rocks At Jay Cooke State Park

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A couple stranded on some rocks at Jay Cooke State Park were rescued by authorities after the swift moving water of the river kept them from returning to shore.

Twenty-one-year-old Dustin Charles Solis, of Cloquet, called police around 6 p.m. Saturday to report that he and his girlfriend, 19-year-old Alyssa Jean Rauch, were stuck on some rocks in the river at Jay Cooke Park.

Carlton County Sheriff's deputies, Carlton Fire Department and Carlton County Dive/Rescue Team responded to the scene. Solis and Rauch were sitting on a rock in the middle of the river. They said they jumped the rocks out there but were unable to return to shore after the river picked up.

At approximately 7:50 p.m., both were rescued and taken to Cloquet Memorial Hospital as a precaution after being in the cold water. Neither sustained injuries.

Authorities would like to remind people of the dangers of trying to walk on the rocks along the river in Jay Cooke State Park.
