MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – University of Minnesota officials announced Wednesday that the funeral for former player Gary Tinsley will be Saturday morning in Jacksonville, Fla.
Tinsley’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. eastern time, 10 a.m. Minnesota time, at Abyssinia Baptist Church in his hometown of Jacksonville.
Tinsley, 22, was found unresponsive by his roommate in his dorm at the University of Minnesota last Friday. He was pronounced dead when authorities got to the scene. Police have ruled out foul play, alcohol and drugs as a possible cause to his death.
Tinsley had just completed his eligibility with the Gopher football team and was just a few weeks short of graduating. He had aspirations of pursuing a career in the NFL after being one of the team’s leading tacklers the last two seasons at middle linebacker. Gophers coach Jerry Kill and the rest of the football team is expected to be in attendance at Tinsley’s funeral.
