Arrest Made In Minneapolis Shooting Death

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the north Minneapolis shooting death of Jody Patzner, Jr.

Minneapolis Police Sgt. Steven McCarty said Hezekiah Cory Hamilton, of Minneapolis, was arrested Tuesday night and is currently being held at Hennepin County Jail.

Hamilton's listed address is near the site of the shooting, which occurred on the 3500 block of Fremont Avenue North -- just a few blocks from Patzner's home.

Jody Patzner, Sr. said he doesn't know the man arrested for his son's death but he is a neighbor of theirs and lives less than a block away.

Twenty-two-year-old Patzner was gunned down as he went to deliver lasagna to a family friend around 8:30 p.m. Monday night. At 8:40 p.m., the family got a call from the neighbor that he never arrived.

On the sidewalk where he was gunned down, neighbors and friends have been leaving balloons, flowers and signs of remembrance.

His father said he hopes justice will be served.

"I don't want to cry on camera, it's a sigh of relief. I hope he gets what's coming to him," he said. "Hopefully justice will be served."

The Patzners are planning their son's funeral, which will be held on Wednesday.

They said this Sunday, a vigil will be held in their neighborhood in his memory.

They asked us to pass along their appreciation for all of the support they've received from people in the community.

Investigators plan to present the case to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office on Thursday.

A fund has been set up for Patzner, Jr. at participating Wells Fargo banks.
