Man Gets 7 Years In St. Paul Bar Shooting

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – A man accused of being an accomplice in a fatal shooting outside a St. Paul bar was sentenced to seven years in prison in Ramsey County Court on Friday.

Xavier Jerome Buckhanan, 37, was convicted Friday of aiding and abetting possession of a pistol/assault weapon and attempted first-degree assault in connection with the April 13, 2011, incident.

According to a complaint, Buckhanan was one of three men inside Born's Bar on the 800 block of Rice Street in St. Paul in the early-morning hours of April 13, 2011. The three men were told to leave the bar after getting into a fight with other bar patrons. Byron Dean Brantley, 31, shot and killed 26-year-old Trevell Glass near the intersection of Rice and Manitoba Streets.

A 28-year-old man was also shot and taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Buckhanan will serve seven years in prison with credit for 367 days served. He also had a charge of attempted first-degree murder dismissed.
