DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa state senator and her husband were injured during the weekend as they worked to clean up from storms that rumbled through the state.
Republican Sen. Pat Ward of Clive injured her back and her husband, John, suffered a punctured lung in the accident.
Senate Republican staffer Don McDowell says the two were dealing with storm damage Sunday at their home in suburban Des Moines when John Ward fell from a ladder. He and his wife were injured.
The couple remained in a Des Moines hospital on Monday, and McDowell says it’s unclear when they will be released.
Ward was elected to the Senate in 2004 and is an assistant GOP leader.
