COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, Minn. (WCCO) – Police in Columbia Heights say a man driving a stolen vehicle died in a crash near Hart Lake following a police pursuit.
The crash happened around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, and started when police tried to pull over a car for driving recklessly. It was determined the vehicle had been stolen in Minneapolis.
Officers said the driver turned off his lights and sped off down Arthur Street Northeast.
Police say the 32-year-old driver was ejected after missing the curve at Hart Lake.
Officers went into the water to rescue the driver, who was the only one inside the car, but he died as a result of his injuries.
The driver’s name was not released.
Authorities did say the man has a history of car theft.
