MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 44-year-old man is dead after police say he crossed into the path of a semi tractor-trailer and was hit head-on.
Police say the crash occurred around 5:40 a.m. Wednesday on State Highway 8 in Apple River Township in Polk County.
Garrett Javner, of Clayton, Wis., was driving a Dodge mini van west on Highway 8 when he crossed into the eastbound lane of a semi. Javner died at the scene. He was the only occupant of his vehicle.
A secondary crash occurred after the fatal collision when a Toyota Camry, driving west on Highway 8 collided with Javner’s mini van.
No one else was injured in the crash.
Highway 8 was closed to traffic while officials controlled the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed Javner was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, which is still being investigated.
