FRIDLEY, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities say Totino-Grace High School in Fridley had to be evacuated late Friday morning after a report of a mercury leak.

The incident happened at about 11:45 a.m. Authorities say mercury from a thermometer was found on the floor in a classroom in the main school building. All faculty, staff and students were evacuated from the building is a precautionary measure. School officials also said they are following their emergency/disaster preparedness plan.

Authorities said there is no immediate health hazard to any individuals that were inside the school building at the time of the leak. Fridley Police and fire crews are on the scene.

School officials said at this point they won’t be dismissing students early until they can better evaluate the situation.
