WINONA, Minn. (AP) — Keep an eye out for motorcycles if you are driving in the Winona area Saturday.
The annual Spring Flood Run is taking place. Hundreds of motorcycles are expected on the roads between Winona and the Twin Cities, and on both sides of the Mississippi River.
This year’s event features a second starting point in Winona.
Cycles traditionally start in the Twin Cities and head south to Winona. This year motorcyclists also will head north from a starting point at the Winona American Legion Veterans Center.
Law enforcement agencies plan to step up patrols in southeast Minnesota and on the Wisconsin side of the border.
KAGE Radio reports the flood run commemorates the 1965 Mississippi River flood when motorcyclists traveled from the Twin Cities area to help out in Winona.
