Police Ask For Help In Search For Slain N.D. Researcher

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities are asking for the public's help in finding a body connected to a North Dakota New Year's Eve murder.

Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl said the suspect drove a red 1995 GMC Safari van (pictured) through the area of Crosby, Minn., days after the murder of Kurt Johnson.

Johnson's head was found in the home of the suspect, Daniel Wacht. However, the rest of Johnson's body was never found.

Investigators think Wacht might have disposed of Johnson's body while driving through the Crosby area. Johnson was last seen wearing a bright blue down jacket and blue jeans, authorities said.

If you have any information on the murder or where the van may have been during that time, call Crow Wing County police at 218-829-4749.

Johnson was a researcher at North Dakota State University.
