Light Rail To Partially Shut Down This Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The clang-clang-clang of the "trolley" will be replaced by the beep-beep-beep of the Metro Transit bus along part of the Hiawatha Avenue route this weekend.

The 55 route will be substituting buses for light rail trains between the Target Field and Franklin Avenue stations.

The substitution will affect commuters from Friday at 6:30 p.m. through early Monday morning at 3:30 a.m.

Crews are working on a number of maintenance projects on the light rail line during various weekends this summer.

In all, the substitution will affect riders using the following light rail stops: Target Field, Warehouse District/Hennepin Avenue, Nicollet Mall, Government Plaza, Downtown East/Metrodome and Cedar-Riverside.

Metro Transit stressed that the bus trips will take longer for riders than light rail, so commuters should plan for extra travel time.
