Police: Alligator Captured In Bloomington After Hissing At Dog

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities made an unlikely find Wednesday after a man called police, saying an alligator "hissed" at his dog near a wildlife area in Bloomington.

Cmdr. Mark Stehlik, of Bloomington police, said the man called police shortly after noon. He told police he saw the alligator near the Bass Ponds area, which is located at 2400 East 86th Street.

Police and an animal control officer responded and captured the 3-and-a-half-foot-long alligator. The animal control officer brought the alligator to the Bloomington Animal Shelter, which then turned the animal over to Fish and Wildlife Services.

It is not known how the alligator got to Bloomington as alligators are not native to Minnesota.

The Bass Ponds are adjacent to the Minnesota River Wildlife Area.
