A 56-year-old man was sentenced to seven days in jail on Wednesday in a Winona County Court after pleading guilty to careless driving in the crash that killed a 73-year-old bicyclist in Winona last spring.

Thomas Vincent Weaver will also serve one year on probation.

Authorities said 73-year-old Judy Whetstone of Winona was riding her bike near the senior high school when the school bus Weaver was driving struck her while she was in the bike lane.

The Minnesota State Patrol said she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Weaver made too wide of a turn when he struck Whetstone.
