Mill City Farmers Market Opens For The Season In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Saturday was an ideal day to head over to the farmers market.

The Mill City Farmers Market, located on the Chicago Mall between the Guthrie Theater and Mill City Museum, opened up for the season.

"We are all local, sustainable or organic," said Brenda Langton, the founder of the Mill City Farmers Market. "And [the foods] are more nutritious and they are fresher than you could get on most grocery shelves."

Langton she said because of the early spring, the market has "tons" of produce -- lettuce, mushrooms and, even, arugula.

"It is a premium product," she said.

Besides fresh fruits and veggies, Mill City also honored mothers on Mother's Day weekend. Children planted flowers to give to their moms.

Organizers said the whole idea behind the market is to promote Minnesota farmers and healthy eating.
