Construction To Create A Mess On I-94 This Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – If you plan on driving Interstate 94 around Minneapolis or St. Paul at all this weekend, be prepared for plenty of delays and headaches.

A couple of significant construction projects will close parts of Interstate 94 in the metro starting at 8 p.m. Friday, and they won't be back open until the morning rush hour on Monday. Both directions of I-94 will be closed from 5th Street to 10th Street, and the ramp to 12th Street will be closed for the construction of the Central Light Rail Transit bridge.

Westbound I-94 from Highway 280 to 394 will be also be closed. Motorists heading west on I-94 from St. Paul will be detoured to northbound I-35E to 694 west and eventually back to I-94. Those heading east on I-94 will be detoured to Highway 280 to eastbound Highway 36, then to southbound I-35E and back to I-94 east.

There are also several highway ramps that will be closed in the south metro, Minneapolis and St. Paul as a result of construction. Head to the Minnesota Department of Transportation web site for all the details.
