Gevo Starts Commercial Production At Minn. Plant

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The biofuels and renewable chemicals company Gevo Inc. has started commercial production of bio-based isobutanol at its plant in Luverne, Minn.

CEO Patrick Gruber says production started Wednesday afternoon. The Minnesota plant formerly produced ethanol. Gevo bought it in 2010 from Agri-Energy LLC and converted it to produce isobutanol, which can be blended into fuel at higher percentages than ethanol.

Englewood, Colo.-based Gevo has a goal to produce about 1 million gallons per month of isobutanol in Luverne by the end of the year. Gevo has said the Luverne plant has an isobutanol production capacity of 18 million gallons per year.
