MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – University of Minnesota officials announced Thursday plans to make improvements at both Williams Arena and Mariucci Arena before the start of the 2012-13 seasons there.
The school will install new center-hung LED scoreboards, LED fascia boards and sound systems that will be ready to use at a date that has not yet been determined. The plan is to have those ready for the Gopher basketball and hockey seasons at Williams Arena and Mariucci Arena.
Daktronics, Inc., is building and installing the new scoreboards for the basketball and hockey arenas, and Parsons Electric will be putting in new sound systems at both facilities.
The new scoreboard at Mariucci Arena will be 11 feet, 6 inches tall by 14 feet, 9 inches wide. The main board at Williams Arena will be 11 feet, 7 inches tall by 13 feet, 8 inches wide. A control room will also be installed to run the scoreboards for Mariucci Arena, Williams Arena and TCF Bank Stadium.
