MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — With May being one of the wettest on record in Minnesota, expect to see a lot of mosquitoes buzzing about this summer.

But the fight to kill them is in full force this weekend.

“People shouldn’t be surprised this weekend, on Saturday, Sunday or Monday, to see helicopters over wetlands, dropping dry granular formulations of a soil bacterium that will hopefully keep mosquitoes from hatching and ruining our picnics, or transmitting a disease this summer,” said Jim Stark, the Executive Director of the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District.

Stark says you can also do your part, by dumping out containers with water in them in your yard to prevent the mosquitoes from hatching eggs.
