CEYLON, Minn. (WCCO) – The mayor of a town in south Minnesota has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his estranged wife, according to a report.

KEYC-TV, the CBS affiliate from out of Mankato, Minn., reports that Ceylon mayor John Dennis Gibeau has been charged with interfering with a 911 call and domestic assault.

The report says Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Gibeau’s home on May 27 after his wife reported being pushed around by her husband.

She said he also took her phone when she tried to call 911.

KEYC-TV reported that Gibeau told authorities that he took the phone away because he thought she was calling her father, who he said has physically threatened him in the past.

Gibeau is reportedly set to appear in court on June 4.
