MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) –Two men have been arrested Wednesday in connection with a racially charged cross burning incident in Bemidji, police say.

According to authorities, Derek Daniel Barnes, 20, and Ryan Fairbanks Andree, 18, both of Bemidji, are in custody and held under suspicion of committing terroristic threats and using explosive/incendiary devices.

The Beltrami County Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident that took place at about 12:40 a.m. on May 25 when police were notified of a burning cross in someone’s yard in Northern Township. The cross, which the victim had doused already, had a racist message on it and other racist artifacts.
