EPA Awards $1.8M In Clean-Up Grants For St. Paul
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- St. Paul is getting $1.8 million in "brownfield grants" from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for cleaning up abandoned industrial and commercial properties.
EPA regional administrator Susan Hedman was in St. Paul on Wednesday to make the announcement with Mayor Chris Coleman and Port Authority President Louis Jambois. She says the grants will help revitalize neighborhoods and help businesses create jobs.
Coleman says cleaning up brownfields pays off by transforming them into useful, productive spaces.
The City of St. Paul will receive $200,000 to clean up a former rail yard that's slated to become part of a proposed nature sanctuary. The Port Authority will receive $1.6 million to help clean up areas targeted for redevelopment around the city.
Since 2003, the EPA has awarded $13 million to St. Paul.
