Mankato Man Drowns In Popular Swimming Pond

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say a Mankato man drowned in a popular swimming spot.

The 23-year-old was swimming Saturday at Hiniker Pond. His name has not been released.

Capt. Rich Murry of the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Department says the man was swimming with friends when he was seen going under shortly after 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Police recovered him just before 7 p.m.

He was pronounced dead at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
