ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – The most recent seat belt enforcement campaign across Minnesota resulted in more than 12,000 citations for not wearing seat belts while driving, according to a report released Monday by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

The “Click It or Ticket” campaign wrapped up June 3, which included 313 reporting law enforcement agencies from around the state. A total of 12,639 citations were issued over the two-week stretch. The DPS reported that another 301 citations were issued for child passenger violations, including booster seats.

From 2009 to 2011, there have been 878 deaths involving motorists. DPS officials said 43 percent of those killed in accidents were not wearing seat belts.
