Thursday's Storm Topples S. Minn. Barn, Killing Cattle

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Vicki and Galen Ordalen are picking up the pieces of their Goodhue County farm after Thursday's storm knocked down trees and destroyed their barn.

Inside the barn, a beam fell down and killed several of their cattle. The family's farm is located near the intersection of County Road 12 and Highway 1.

"The trees are so hard for me, too," Vicki Ordalen. "You watch them grow for all these years, and now they're beautiful...and then they are gone."

Ordalen said within minutes, friends and family came to help. And while it's overwhelming, she says she gets comfort from her son's girlfriend.

"One stick at a time," she said.

Wind from Thursday's storms also did damage in southern Goodhue County, near the areas of Kenyon Township, Cherry Grove Township and Wanamingo.

Authorities are not yet sure if the damage was dealt by straight line winds.

Ordalen is grateful no one was hurt.
