Families Flock To Juneteenth Celebrations
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Juneteenth celebrations were held Saturday at the North Mississippi Regional Park.
There were bands, food and many other family-friendly activities.
The Juneteenth Festival is in remembrance of the events of June 19, 1865, when word reached Texas that slavery has ended – nearly two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
At Saturday's event, there was an exhibit that showcased the dangers slaves faced as they sought their freedom.
