DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (WCCO) — All this week we’re going to some of your favorite lake places, and Frank and Chris made their way to Detroit Lakes on Tuesday.
A sailboat sculpture sits prominently on the edge of Detroit Lake’s 1-mile beach – and for good reason.
They do just about everything down by the water here. During cabin season, the population swells from the usual 8,500 to 30,000.
Detroit Lakes, located about 3 1/2 hours northwest of the Twin Cities, is one of 412 lakes in a 25-mile radius.
And the same artist who created the sailboat sculpture, Hans Gilsdorf, also did work for one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies.
