Police: Cell Tower Climber Dies After Fall In Beltrami Co.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 19-year-old communications tower climber died Tuesday afternoon in a township 10 miles west of Bemidji after falling more than 150 feet, authorities said.

Beryl Wernberg, of the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, said several calls came in around 5:50 p.m. about a climber who had fallen from a cell tower near Lammers Township, near Solway.

Emergency crews responded and found a man who had fallen 153 feet to his death.

The sheriff's office said the man was from North Dakota and that his identity will not be released until his family is notified.

The State Patrol, the Solway Fire Department and the North Country First Responders also responded to the scene.
