Crews Battle Heat To Rescue Trapped Edina Worker
EDINA, Minn. (WCCO) – Workers have freed a construction worker after he became trapped by a slab of concrete on Tuesday morning in Edina.
Authorities say a young construction worker was trapped by a 3- to 4-foot piece of concrete on his legs. A spokesperson from the Edina Communications Department said emergency crews were called to a residential area on Paddock Road after man had his leg trapped under a piece of cement in the hole of a construction area.
The accident happened after the soil around him collapsed, causing the cement slab to roll over his legs.
The site was at a residence just east and north of Interlachen Country Club in Edina.
Several departments were called into assist at the scene, including Hopkins, Eden Prairie, Bloomington, Excelsior and Mound.
Authorities took the man to the hospital. He had been issued medication to deal with pain associated with the accident while still trapped. Officials with Hennepin County Medical Center said the man was treated for his injuries and released.
The man issued a statement while at the hospital, thanking everyone who responded to the scene to come to his aid.
"They did a top-notch job and made me comfortable throughout the rescue. They were absolutely professional," the man said.
