MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Two men have been charged in the shooting that left three innocent victims injured in downtown Minneapolis.

Dontae Andre Dewayne McKinney, 19, was charged with one count of first-degree assault and three counts of first-degree aiding and abetting assault. He remains at the Hennepin County Medical Center being treated for injuries he sustained during apprehension.

Don Buddie Austin, 20, was charged with three counts of first-degree aiding and abetting assault and one count of prohibited person in possession of a firearm. He is currently at the Hennepin County Jail.

The shootings happened early Monday morning at 2 .m. at a parking lot near the Atrium Apartments, where two people were arguing. The incident happened just as the bars in the Warehouse District were letting out.

Police said there was an argument in this apartment parking lot on 4th Street and Hennepin Avenue, where multiple shots were fired. The bullets flew across the street and entered the large crowd of people spilling outside of the Gay 90’s Bar.

About eight shots were fired, according to authorities.

Police said the Sunday night crowd there was even larger than normal because of Sunday’s Pride Festival.

“A lot of people were scared that something could still happen because they didn’t know if it was a hate crime or what it might have been,” said Chris Juhn, who witnessed the shooting.

Police said the three innocent victims hit outside the Gay 90s received non-life threatening injuries.

The officer involved in the shooting was placed on three-day administrative leave, and the Minneapolis Police Department’s Homicide and Internal Affairs Units are investigating the shooting. Both the leave and the investigation are routine.
