ST. PAUL (WCCO) — The St. Paul Police Departments is investigating two cases of stolen wheelchairs that occurred in the past few weeks.

Police say one wheelchair was stolen Monday morning on the 100 block of Atwater in St. Paul. Melanie Ann Grell said she went outside to walk her dog in the morning in her wheelchair and when she came back, she brought her dog inside. She left the wheelchair outside and when she came back, she said it was gone.

Grell said she’s able to walk a limited amount and wasn’t gone long. Police say it was stolen before 8 a.m.

The second case happened on June 22. That incident happened on the 500 block of Cook Avenue East. Police were called before 11 p.m. by a woman who was visiting a friend. Tiesha Bell reported her electric wheelchair was stolen from outside her friend’s home.

Police don’t have any information to believe the cases are related.
