GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (WCCO) – A six-year-old boy drowned Saturday evening in Wirth Lake at Theodore Wirth Park in Golden Valley, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.
At 5:30 p.m., a bystander walking in the water found the child at the bottom of the lake close to the shore. He was found in approximately four feet of water.
Lifeguards pulled the child to shore and administered CPR, until Golden Valley Police arrived and continued the procedure.
The child was taken to North Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was the sixth person in 2012 to drown in Hennepin County.
The victim was from Golden Valley, and was at Theodore Wirth Park for a birthday party.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
