1 Dead After Overnight Altercation On City Bus In St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities say one man is dead after an altercation overnight between three people that started on a Metro Transit bus escalated as they got off the bus in St. Paul.

Police responded to the incident near North Rice Street and Aurora Avenue West at about 1 a.m. When authorities arrived, they found a man unresponsive and two others were at the scene. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was found at a church near that intersection.

Police said the man's death doesn't appear to be random. They said it appears the death may have been the culmination of a fight that started on a Metro Transit bus. Authorities said it's not known what led up to the altercation.

No arrests have been made at this time, but police are questioning two people in connection with the initial call to 911. Authorities said they believe at least one of the people involved in the call to police was involved in the altercation.

Officials have closed Rice Street from University Avenue to John Ireland while the death is being investigated.

The victim's name has not been released. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call St. Paul Police.
