Woman Drowns In Western Wis.

BUFFALO CITY, Wis. (WCCO) -- Authorities are investigating after a 35-year-old woman drowned in western Wisconsin Wednesday evening.

The drowning happened at about 6:50 p.m.  just north of Buffalo City, a city which sits alongside the Mississippi River.

The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office said Tammy Lorenz was at a sandbar there called Belvidere Landing.

According to witnesses, she either walked into deep water, went off a steep ledge in the water or was swept up in the current. She went underwater and didn't resurface.

She was found about 150 yards downstream from where she had last been seen.

The sheriff's office said she was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
