Midwest Tomato Fest Taking Over
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Organizers of this year's Midwest Tomato Fest – taking place Saturday evening in downtown Minneapolis – say semi-truck loads of tomatoes are being brought in from Arkansas.
"The tomatoes we'll have at our event are inedible and they're over ripe," said organizer Kamal Mohamed. "They reach a certain point where the stores can't sell them."
Organizers expect about 3,000 to 5,000 participants to show up and start slinging tomatoes.
The group even gives back, donating a portion of the proceeds to Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless.
The Midwest Tomato Fest will also include music, food trucks, drinks and other entertainment.
