ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – A veterans memorial that took more than 10 years to build is finally open on Harriet Island.

Dozens gathered Tuesday night for the grand opening ceremony of St. Paul’s American Veterans Memorial — Plaza de Honor.

The Plaza de Honor recognizes the sacrifices of all veterans and brings special recognition to Latino and Mexican-American veterans, especially those from the Westside of St. Paul.

The Mexican American Post#5 helped raise the funds to complete the project.
