MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – At least one person is dead after a car hit a tree Friday morning in Minneapolis, according to police.

Authorities said the accident happened just after 5 a.m. near the intersection of 5th Avenue and 10th Street South in Minneapolis. Police said the driver was the only person in the car at the time of the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said 10th Street is closed from 4th Avenue to 5th Avenue while the accident is being investigated.

Police said speed was a factor in the crash and the victim is an adult male, but his name has not been released.

The accident is under investigation, and we’ll have more details as they become available.
