MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two people are dead and another is in critical condition after a fatal crash in Pine County Monday night, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities responded to a report of a two-vehicle head-on crash that happened at about 4:56 p.m. Monday on Highway 48 at Grace Lake Road. Authorities said a 2012 Dodge Caravan was driving eastbound on Highway 48 when it crossed the center line, hitting a 1994 Mercury Sable head-on that was traveling westbound.

The driver of the Mercury Sable, a 20-year-old man, was killed instantly. The driver of the Dodge Caravan, a 61-year-old man, was taken to a hospital where he later died of his injuries. An 18-year-old woman who was riding with the 20-year-old man was extricated from the vehicle. Authorities said she is in critical condition at a hospital.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Authorities said it is not known what caused the Dodge Caravan to cross the center line.
