MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins are at the halfway point of a 10-game effort to separate baseball and peanuts for fans with nut allergies.

Monday’s game against Chicago is the sixth of the year where a special “peanut-free” section is available. Twins spokesman Kevin Smith says the special Target Field section has 60 seats.

Several major league teams have worked to accommodate fans with food allergies, but the Twins have done so more frequently than most.

The nonprofit Food Allergy Initiative estimates that 12 million Americans have a food allergy of some form. The New York-based organization promotes the peanut-free games as part of its mission to encourage safe environments for people with serious allergies.
