Minn. School Bus Driver Charged With DUI

HAYFIELD, Minn. (AP) — A school bus driver is accused of driving under the influence in southeastern Minnesota.

A bus driver was reported driving poorly in the Hayfield area Monday morning. A Dodge County sheriff's deputy found the bus and detected the odor of alcohol on the driver's breath.

Sheriff Jim Jensen says the bus driver, 40-year-old Robert Mielke of Stewartville, was arrested and held overnight in jail. Mielke was charged Tuesday morning and released on his own recognizance.

Authorities say the bus was taking children to summer school classes. KAAL-TV reports children had been on the bus, but weren't on the bus at the time of the arrest.

The Post Bulletin of Rochester reports Mielke is due back in Aug. 8.
