MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Brandon Roy says his retirement from the NBA last year was never final.

Roy was introduced Tuesday by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He says he considered having last season off as more of a “pause” while he worked through chronic knee problems that ended his tenure with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Roy signed a two-year, $10.4 million contract to resume his career with the Wolves. They actually drafted him in 2006 but traded him to the Blazers a few minutes later for another shooting guard, Randy Foye.

Roy says he’s eager to get back to playing “at a high level” and help the Wolves try to make the playoffs. Roy averaged 19 points per game over five seasons with the Blazers.
