1 Killed, 1 Hurt In Polk County, Wis. Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One man was killed and a woman was hurt after a two-vehicle crash in Polk County, Wis., early Friday morning.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a crash at about 12:36 a.m. at the intersection of County Highway N and County Highway Z in Laketown Township. When authorities arrived, a 33-year-old man from Luck, Wis., was pronounced dead at the scene. A 46-year-old woman was pinned in her car and had to be extricated.

Authorities determined that the woman was driving a 1997 Mercury Mountainer SUV westbound on county Highway N when she hit a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse that had entered County Highway N after being at a stop sign.

Both vehicles came to rest in a field after the crash, authorities said. The woman was transported to St. Croix Regional Medical Center and treated for her injuries.

The man, Jonathan Hawkins, was extricated from his vehicle and died at the scene. Authorities said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which the Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
