MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Team USA left no doubt to the outcome it its Olympic pool play game against Nigeria in London on Thursday.
The Americans got out to a 13-0 lead and scored 49 first quarter points in a 156-73 victory over Nigeria. The 83-point margin is the largest in Olympic history, and Carmelo Anthony set an individual scoring record with 37 points.
Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love added 15 points in the victory, including shooting 3-of-6 from three point range. He also collected six rebounds in 23 minutes.
The Americans next play Lithuania on Saturday, another game where they should be heavily favored.
Also of note were a pair of Russians in a pool play victory over Brazil at the Olympics. Recent Timberwolves signee Andrei Kirilienko scored 19 points and Alexey Shved added 17 points as Russia beat Brazil 75-74.
